Old People’s Everyday Practices and Ageing Policy
– On the Synchronisation between Everyday Life and Policy
Based on an ethnographic fieldwork in two activity centres in the Copenhagen area and a document study of policy documents, the authors explore the relation between ageing policies and everyday practices as an on-going synchronisation work. With this approach, the authors emphasise how the everyday practices and the policies are entangled, and they analyse how active ageing forms late life in new ways. The political articulation of everyday practices often formulates them as problems, and the authors analyse how problems such as dependence, decline, loneliness and passivity appear in the ageing policies and the everyday practices respectively. This is used to discuss how politics and everyday lives are asynchronous and both adjust according to each other and collide.
